A Proposed Course in Sustainability Issues Using Google Educational Applications and Its Effectiveness in Developing the Depth of Knowledge and Environmental Citizenship For Faculty of Education Science Student Teachers
The aim of the research was to prepare a proposed course in sustainability issues and teach it using Google Educational Applications to reveal whether it was effective in developing the depth of knowledge and environmental citizenship for faculty of education science student teachers. To achieve this aim, the proposed electronic course in sustainability issues was prepared using Google Sites as one of Google’s educational applications. The research instruments were the depth of knowledge in sustainability issues test and the environmental citizenship scale. These instruments were electronically administered to the study participants using Google Forms. The quasi-experimental design of the pre-post experimental group was used. The participants were 40 male and female student teachers enrolled in the fourth year, basic education science section, at the Faculty of Education, University of Sadat City. The research findings have revealed that the proposed course in sustainability issues using Google Educational Applications was effective in developing the depth of knowledge and environmental citizenship for faculty of education science student teachers. In addition, a statistically significant positive correlation at the (α≤05.0) level of significance between the grades of the students on the pre and post administrations of the research instruments was found. Accordingly, and based on the research results, several recommendations were presented (i.e., the necessity of teaching the proposed course in sustainability issues using Google Educational applications for faculty of education science student teachers, and the importance of developing faculty of educations' curricula and programs in light of the sustainability issues.
