Abstract

Abstract: The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using the design-based learning for developing chemical thinking and environmental responsibility among the first-grade preparatory stage pupils. In order to achieve the study objective, the quasi-experimental method was followed and two groups were drawn. The participants were 71 pupils from Al-Monshaa Al-Kobra Preparatory School for Boys and Girls, Kafr Shukr Educational Administration. There were assigned into two groups: Control group (n= 37) and experimental group (n= 34). The study tools were chemical thinking test and environmental responsibility scale. They were administered as a pre-application and a post-application on the study group. The experimental group pupils were taught by using the design-based learning and the control group ones were taught by the traditional method. The findings showed that there was statistically significant difference between the scores means of the control group pupils and those of the experimental group ones on the post-application of chemical thinking test and environmental responsibility scale, in favour of the latter.
