Abstract

The objective of the research is to demonstrate the effectiveness of using the pentagram supported by augmented reality technology in teaching science to develop deep understanding and reduce mental wandering among preparatory school pupils. To achieve this objective, the researcher prepared a teacher' guide, an activity booklet for the student, a test was prepared to measure deep understanding in a unit. “Earth and the Universe” and the scale of mental wandering. The research used the quasi-experimental method. The research group consisted of 84 first-year preparatory school pupils, who were divided equally into two groups: an experimental group consisted of (43) male and female students, and a control group consisted of (41) male and female pupils. The pre- and post-research tools were applied to the research group and the results were analyzed statistically. The results assured that there was a statistically significant difference at the level of 0.1 between the average scores of the students in the experimental group and the scores of the pupils in the control group in the post-application of both the deep understanding test and the mental wandering scale in favor of the experimental group, which indicated the effectiveness of using the pentagram supported by augmented reality technology in Teaching science to develop deep understanding and reduce mental wandering among preparatory school pupils, The current research recommended the necessity of using pentagrams supported by augmented reality technology in teaching science at different educational levels.
