Abstract

The present research aimed to determined the effectiveness of design thinking in learning chemistry for developing creative problem solving skills among chemistry sections at faculties of Education. In order to achieve this objective, a list of creative problem solving skills which are necessary for chemistry section students were developed. The instructor handbook and the student book in environmental chemistry in the light of the design thinking were also prepared. The participants of the study consisted of 48 students enrolled in the third chemistry year chemistry section, who learned environmental chemistry topics according to design thinking. The instruments of the study included creative problem solving tasks in chemistry.  The research relied on a one group experimental design. The study findings revealed that there was a statistically significance difference at 0.01 between the scores means of the pre-application and those of the post-application on creative problem solving skills (main skills – sub-skills) test, in favour of the latter.
