The Effectiveness of Employing Augmented Reality Technology in Teaching Science in Developing Academic Achievement and Visual Thinking of Fourth-Grade Students

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the effectiveness of employing augmented reality technology in teaching science in developing academic achievement and visual thinking for fourth-grade students. The research relied on quesi- experiment methodology. The research participants were divided into two groups: one of them was an experimental group of (26) students، and the other was a control group of (26) students at the fourth grade at Safana Bint Hatim Al Tai School for Basic Education in Muscat Governorate Sultanate of Oman. The research was conducted in the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023. In order to achieve the research purpose, a teacher's guide was prepared using the augmented reality technology applied to the selected unit of the fourth-grade curriculum for the first semester; and the research tools represented in the academic achievement test and the visual thinking scale were built. The research results revealed that there were statistically significant differences at (α = 0.05) significance level in the post-application of the academic achievement test between the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group. In addition، there were statistically significant differences at (α = 0.05) significance level in the post application of the visual thinking scale between the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group.
