The effectiveness of a course based on ESTEM for developing sustainable energy concepts, the ability to environmental decisions making, and professional competencies among science students-basic education

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to design acourse based on ESTEM, and investigate its effectiveness for developing sustainable energy concepts, the ability to environmental decisions making, and professional competencies among science students-basic education. The course based on ESTEM were designed, then the research instruments which are: a test for sustainable energy concepts, a test for environmental decisions making, and a questionnaire for professional competencies were prepared. The sample of the study included (320) fourth year students basic science department at the faculty of education Damanhur university (academic year 2020/ 2021). The sample was randomly assigned into two groups: Exp. G (160 students), and Cont. G. (160 students). The research instruments were applied at the same time on the two groups. Then, the course was taught to the Exp. G. during the first term. Finally, the research instruments were applied again at the same time on the two groups. Research result revealed that: There are significant differences between experimental group and control group students in all the research instruments in favor of the Exp. G.
