A Teaching Model Based on Integrating Universal Design for Learning Principles into Science Performance Tasks to Develop the Qualities of Expert Learner for preparatory pupils at Public Language Schools

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of using a proposed teaching model which integrates the principles of Universal Design for Learning UDL into science performance tasks to develop the three expert learner qualities (which are resourceful & knowledgeable- strategic& goal-directed and purposeful & motivated) for preparatory students at public language schools compared to using the usual teaching methods for teaching Science. Research methods were two; descriptive method (for theoretical background and developing the research materials and tools) and quasi-experimental method (with the experimental and control group design). Research tools were three, the test of deep understanding, strategic thinking scale and self-organization scale. Results indicated the growth of expert learner qualities for experimental group students compared to themselves and to the control group. It was recommended to use the proposed teaching model in teaching science for preparatory students and train teachers to use it in different educational stages.
