Abstract

The research aimed to develop the environmental responsibility of members of the local community in Saint Catherine regarding the preservation of biodiversity. A proposed program was prepared to develop some dimensions of environmental responsibility towards the preservation of biodiversity. The research tools consisted of measures of environmental responsibility that include four dimensions (environmental knowledge, environmental trends, environmental behavior, and locus of control), in addition to a children's environmental awareness’ measure. The experimental method was used on the research group, 30 individuals, and 30 of their children. The results indicated that statistically significant differences between the average scores in both the environmental responsibility and the environmental awareness in the pre and post tests. Recommendations were presented, including making use of the program suggested by researchers by those in charge of the Department of Biological Diversity at the Ministry of Environment by including program topics in community activities within natural reserves.
