Abstract

The current research deals with the problem of the shortcomings of biology curricula design for excellence in the general secondary stage in presenting contemporary sciences such as bioinformatics. Moreover, the introduction of integrated biological concepts with other sciences such as mathematics, technology, and computers. The aim of the research is to determine the dimensions of bioinformatics to propose a bioinformatics curriculum for excellence in biology, and to determine the effectiveness of the proposed curriculum in acquiring high school students some biological concepts. The researcher followed the descriptive and analytical approach to build a proposed curriculum in bioinformatics. In addition, define the curriculum in bioinformatics for excellence in biology at the general secondary stage. Then the researcher followed the experimental method in using the one-group experimental design to apply a unit of study a, and applied the biological concepts test. The results indicated that the research hypotheses were met, and that there were statistically significant differences for testing biological concepts in favor of the post-test, and the effectiveness of the curriculum in the acquisition of third-grade secondary students some levels of excellence in biological concepts. The researcher recommended the necessity of integrating biology curriculum topics, and applying the bioinformatics curriculum, to measuring its effectiveness in achieving excellence levels in biology among high school students.
